Sand animation

About sand animation

Sand animation is a blend of painting, shadow theatre and dance.
Four actors are needed to do a sand animation performance: sand, hands, light coming from a lightbox and music. The hands move the sand over the glass surface of the lightbox lit from beneath and the image is being projected on a screen. The music decides the choreography: sometimes there is already an implicit story in a musical piece and sometimes it has to be discovered by the sand performer.
